About Us

LYSA – Lexington Youth Soccer Association
The Lexington Youth Soccer Association was incorporated in 1977 to promote “the growth and appreciation for the game of soccer by providing opportunities for youth to learn and participate in organized programs of soccer.” LYSA is a volunteer self-supporting organization run by the player's parents.  LYSA is a member of Kentucky Youth Soccer Association (KYSA) and the United States Youth Soccer Association (USYSA).
In 1988, LYSA reached an agreement with the City of Lexington to develop a soccer complex at Masterson Station Park. It has conducted much of their recreational program at Masterson Station since. Its had programs conducted at the Kentucky Farm Bureau field off Leestown Road, and it also has use of parks land off Berea Road near the Legacy Trail.

The LYSA board oversees 3 Programs:  LYSA Recreational League, TOPSoccer for special need players, and the LYSA  Adult League!

LYSA Recreational
Our Rec league offers teams in all age groups from 4U-19U.  It's a wonderful league to begin playing soccer.  It's the league for those who have never played and for those that have played for years, just because they love the sport.  The Rec league depends on parent volunteers for all positions and because of this, it is required.  We especially need coaches - they are always in high demand.  There are many levels of involvement to choose from including various LYSA committee positions.  If you are interested in exploring the opportunities available within LYSA and feel your experience or background could help in these areas, please email office@lysa.org

LYSA TOPSoccer (TOPS – The Outreach Program for Soccer)
TOPS  is a program of the U.S. Soccer Association.  The aim: to provide players ages four and older with disabilities an environment filled with meaningful learning, developmental and physical participation opportunities through the game of soccer. The community-based soccer program emphasizes player participation and development. It is designed to improve the overall fitness, self-esteem and social skills of the athletes, taking them from “the sidelines into the game.” Click here for more information.

In 2022, LYSA dissolved our youth select program called Lexington F.C. (Lexington Football Club) in an agreement with the new Lexington Sporting Club organization.

As the popularity of soccer began to grow through the 1980s, LYSA felt that it was important to also offer a select option to players to compete at a higher level. Lexington FC was formed in 1998 as a result of a merger between the Kentucky Kickers Soccer Club and the LYSA Select Soccer Club. The two clubs merged to better meet the needs of the growing Lexington soccer community.

Lexington FC became one of the top soccer clubs in the region. With over 700 players on over 40 teams, our players competed at the highest levels including the highest levels of the MRL and even in the prestigious USYS National League. LFC’s coaching staff was the best in the state with numerous coaches with the highest possible licenses. Lexington FC (along with it’s two predecessors KY Kickers and LYSA Select) produced nearly 400 collegiate players, several professional players, and a US National Team participant- Arin Gilliland. LFC was the home of 51 State Championships, 49 State Finalists, and 4 Midwest Regional Finalists.
