How to volunteer

LYSA depends on parent volunteers to coach its recreational leagues. Coaching is a demanding, but extremely rewarding way to be involved in your child’s sporting life. Previous coaching or even playing experience is not necessary. All you need is a desire to help children.

LYSA will reimburse all volunteer coaches the cost ($25) of obtaining a National F license from U.S. soccer.* The “F” license is a 2-hour course, conducted entirely online, intended for all parents and coaches of youth players. The focus of this grassroots course is to share U.S. Soccer’s best practices in creating a fun, activity-centered and age-appropriate environment for 5-8 year old players. The course can be stopped and restarted for your convenience.

All LYSA recreational coaches also are invited to attend a coaching seminar led each season by Director of Coaching Cary Tsamas.

In addition, LYSA offers coaching guides, advice and player clinics from experienced coaches that will help you on your journey as a LYSA volunteer.

When you register your child for LYSA, you can register yourself as a head coach or assistant coach volunteer. That will get the process started.

To learn more, contact Jared Peck, Director of the Recreational Leagues at lysarecdirector@lysa.org.

*Copy of F license certificate can be emailed to office@lysa.org with name and address for reimbursement. Coaches being reimbursed must agree to coach one recreational season and complete a required background check. You will receive more information about the background check after you register.
