How to Volunteer

LYSA depends on parent volunteers to coach its recreational leagues. Coaching is a demanding, but extremely rewarding way to be involved in your child’s sporting life. Previous coaching or even playing experience is not necessary. All you need is a desire to help children.  If you would like to coach, please log on to your account - the same account as your child, and register yourself as a Coach/Volunteer.  Answer questions that pertain to you and give your SS# to obtain a background check provided by KYSA.  There is no cost to you.
LYSA will reimburse all volunteer coaches the cost ($25) of obtaining a National F license from U.S. soccer.*
The “F” license is a 2-hour course, conducted entirely online, intended for all parents and coaches of youth players. The focus of this grassroots course is to share U.S. Soccer’s best practices in creating a fun, activity-centered and age-appropriate environment for 5-8 year old players. The course can be stopped and restarted for your convenience.
All LYSA recreational coaches also are invited to attend a coaching seminar led each season by Director of Coaching Cary Tsamas.  In addition, LYSA offers coaching guides, advice and player clinics from experienced coaches that will help you on your journey as a LYSA volunteer.

*Copy of F license certificate can be emailed to office@lysa.org with name and address for reimbursement. Coaches being reimbursed must agree to coach one recreational season by registering as a Coach/Volunteer and complete a required background check.

We were extremely disappointed that we had to cancel both our spring and fall 2020 LYSA TOPSoccer seasons due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Over the last year we have continued to closely follow all of the information about Covid-19 related to cases, positivity rates, vaccines, and trends. We have also continued to regularly review national, state and local guidelines for youth sports. We recognize that at this time many youth sports teams are planning to resume activities this spring.

However, LYSA TOPSoccer is a unique organization that relies heavily on a large group of volunteers in order to support the full participation of our athletes.  Additionally, we recognize that some of our athletes are considered at a higher risk and at this time most of our athletes and volunteers are not eligible for the vaccines available should they choose to get one. In consideration of the current guidance and safety precaution expectations for youth sports as well as factors listed above, LYSA TOPSoccer will not be holding the regularly scheduled six week 2021 spring indoor season.
The safety of our players, coaches, families, and volunteers is our number one priority. We will continue to monitor the situation and will maintain communication with our TOPSoccer community and families.

We hope you and your family are safe and we appreciate your understanding and support.

TOPSoccer volunteer positions include coaches, assistant coaches, Buddies, and committee members that focus on publicity, fundraising, planning, and the organization of the TOPS program. TOPSoccer coaches are not paid. and no coaching license is required.

We provide training on-site and have training materials available for coaches and buddies. All coaches must complete a background check.
